Say No To "New Year, New Me"! Sustainable New Year's Resolutions for Your Physical & Mental Health

HAPPY NEW YEAR GUYS!!!!

This year has had its ups and downs for most of us. Some more downs than ups and vice versa. Well done to everyone who has smashed their 2021 goals, but for some of us, things have not gone to plan and we may have been very hard on ourselves for not reaching the goals we set ourselves.

Tell me if any of these goals sound familiar:

  • Lose XXkg
  • Cut out sweets
  • Drink less alcohol
  • Read 12 books this year

The list goes on...

But 2022 is a new year, and with a New Year we can always try again. Now at #BOXD, we're not a fan of the whole "New Year, New Me" philosophy, which can sometimes tend to promote unsustainable habits, even when we have the best of intentions. That's why we thought of a list of more sustainable habits, for both body & mind.

1. Focus On How I Want To Feel

Instead of thinking about how you look, think about what feelings you want to experience. Happiness? Accomplishment? From there, you can set some goals that work towards those.

2. Listen to MY Body

If you need to move, move. If you need to rest, rest. Craving nature? Go outside! Once you give your body what it needs, you can be more efficient in all walks of life.

3. Make Self-Care a Priority

We sometimes burn the candle at both ends, trying to give too much to others without focusing on ourselves. Dedicate some time to yourself in 2022. Treat yourself to a spa day, practice mindfulness, but also simple things like fuelling your body with the right food and drink, exercise to release some endorphins to help boost your mood.

4. Exercise, Even if You Only Have 15 Minutes

An effective workout can be done in 15 minutes. HIIT training focuses on getting the maximum amount of benefits in a short space of time. If you don't want to do anything too intense, how about some yoga! As long as you're moving.

5. Forgive Myself

2021 may have made us very hard on ourselves. Not achieving what we thought we would and not forgiving yourself can be hard on your mental health. But remember, throughout the year, tomorrow is a new day. And you will have the chance to keep moving forward toward whatever goal you want to reach.
